iPhone 17 Air will replace the Plus variant, cheaper than the Pro models

Premium smartphone maker, Apple is all set to release iPhone 17 series in September 2025. It is expected to launch the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the most anticipated gadget iPhone 17 Air. The iPhone 17 Air is believed to be even slimmer with it measuring about 6.25mm in thickness, which is 2mm less thickness than the iPhone 16 Pro, which has a thickness of 8.25mm. It is the latest design innovation that sets iPhone 17 Air apart in the series, a major design elevation step for Apple products.

Replacing the Plus Variant with a Sleeker Alternative

The iPhone 17 Air will substitute the Plus model of the iPhone in the Apple product line. It will continue to be sold at the Plus model price and will be cheaper than the Pro versions. Previous assumptions that the iPhone 17 Air will cost more than all the Pro models are still valid. However, The Wall Street Journal subsequently cleared that it would be even cheaper than the Pro lineup. Apple aims to offer consumers a sleek yet budget-friendly alternative, though the device will reportedly come with certain compromises.

Key Features and Design Updates

The iPhone 17 Air will come with a 6.6-inch screen, Apple’s own A19 chip, and 8GB RAM for enhanced Apple Intelligence. It will also consist of Face ID, Dynamic Island, a 48MP primary camera at the back with a 24MP front-facing camera. Different from other models in the series, the iPhone 17 Air will have only a single camera at the back and it will not have a SIM card tray flap, highlighting the company’s effort towards eSIM. Bloomberg previously pointed out that the device is exceptionally thin, which makes it an ideal choice for customers who pay much attention to the product’s ergonomics and the ability to fit the device in their pocket.

A Bold Move in the Competitive Smartphone Market

The release of the iPhone 17 Air represents Apple’s business decision to expand its product offerings to meet consumer needs while at the same time, the company continues to associate its brand with high-end luxury. If Apple removes the Plus variant and replaces it with one as thin for about the same price, they would manage to appeal to a wider market that seeks the latest design without having to compromise and use a pro device. The slimmer design and thinner form factor afforded by the A19 chip and other enhancements make the iPhone 17 Air a desirable product in the fiercely contested smartphone niche.

Apple has not given its word on the above details but the revealed measures and the company’s proposed price plan prove that the iPhone 17 Air will be a valuable appendage to what they plan to present in 2025.
